Do I need mains supply power, or any power, at my locations for devices to work?
No. One of the design features of LPWAN industrial sensors & IoT modules is that they are long life battery operated. Their main purpose is remote reporting, from pretty much any place within the LPWAN.TO coverage area. The device could be beside a waterway, on the roof of a building, in the middle of a crop farm, on a water tank, in a produce cold room, on a distant shed door. No external power supply required.
How long do device battery’s last?
Some devices are fitted with average 5 year battery life, some with 10 year. Actual operational time does depend on device signal settings, the more signals sent each day the more battery power is used. When the device battery does get low, an alert is sent out from the device to the LPWAN.TO technical team who will arrange a new battery. Battery change requirement is measured in years, not months.
Do I need internet connections at my locations for devices to work?
No. LPWAN devices are manufactured with long range stand alone signal capability, line of sight signaling is about 15km, in built up urban areas transmission is about 2 to 3km. Devices communicate to LPWAN.TO “gateways” strategically placed across the service area, these gateways pass through device signals to our network servers for processing.
Is LPWAN.TO the internet?
No. LPWAN.TO is a private wide area network, we do not need international internet connectivity to operate. We can connect clients with specific needs to international servers
