Over the last few years the types of industrial sensors and IoT modules available in the marketplace has grown rapidly, these days you can get a sensor to remote monitor or meter almost anything e.g. temperature / humidity / flow / fluid level / power / vibration / position / button press / proximity
We are a 100% Tongan owned company, operating for over 10 years and servicing across the south pacific. Most people know us because of our specialist protective products and services, many also know us for our networking solutions and IT products. What is not so well known, is our background work since 2017 to establish an efficient Low Power Wide Area Network service across Tonga; not only to enable signal processing and monitoring of industrial sensors & IoT modules, but to live action particular signals that require immediate response 24/7.
Why LPWAN? Case Study: in 2016 we designed and manufactured the Tereo SSP1, a portable wireless signaling alarm for shipping container doors / compound and industrial gates / anything that required remote reporting of open and close and / or switching on or off. The device worked well but was costly to build, battery had to be charged frequently, and signal range was limited to short distance receivers.
We knew that there was a better way to do “things” so we started working on our long term plan for Tonga LPWAN services.
Tonga’s Communications Radio Spectrum Rules came into effect 1st July 2019, this clarified the frequency and equipment requirements for licence free devices that are used in LPWAN networks. Then in November 2021 the International Telecommunications Union [ITU] issued approval Y.4480 for international use of the signaling protocols that are used by LPWAN.TO (enabling future LPWAN.TO product and service expansion across the south pacific region)
